Stephen Potter’s works represent a distinctive current of mid-twentieth century English humour and social psychology, and an early foray into taking the mickey out of the self-help genre. For the republication of his best-known title – full of tips on how to unnerve your opponent with distraction tactics and other forms of psychological warfare, the publisher wanted a jacket suggesting the ‘Metroland’ milieu of inter-war and 1950s suburban England. The brief also included the full page layout and cover illustration.
